Remember. . .

The older I get the more dates I have that are "remember" dates. I remember when five years ago I walked on to the 62nd floor of Rockefeller Plaza and saw the the first tower burning with a large gaping hole. The memories of that day are as clear as if they happened yesterday, the horror that I felt as I stood in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral and watched the towers fall hasn't exactly subsided with time. Every February 13th I remember the day in 1991 when I had to leave my home in Ecuador and start all over here in the US. December 26th is the day that a dear friend of mine died.

Remembrance isn't always simply about a set of facts that we recall, sometimes it's about what we do with those set of facts. Tonight at church I was reminded of that fact. The Lord's Supper is about remembering... remembering in this case should evoke an action. If we remember that Jesus died for us then it evokes the questions "what does this mean?" and "how does this change things?". Remembering Christ's death is of no consequence unless it changes our behavior.

Remember...

Beautiful thoughts from a beautiful friend. You are so right. Remembering should not be just an emotion. I love you!
